CELEBRITY spotters one of the world's biggest bands are staying in Melbourne.
They were rumoured to be basing themselves in Sydney and commuting via private jet to and from their shows in various state capitals, but Irish supergroup U2 has set up camp in Melbourne.
The band is believed to have settled into the lap of luxury in the exclusive private villa levels at Crown Towers.
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr flew into town late on Wednesday and headed straight to Etihad Stadium for a sound check before last night's much-anticipated show - the first of the Australian leg of their 360 Degrees tour.
According to well-placed music industry sources, the musical millionaires were keen to catch up with Aussie pals and were believed to have hosted a small, intimate private bash at Crown after their show.
The band will stay in town until after Friday night's concert.
Lead singer Bono, who has been rubbing shoulders with Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd since arriving in Australia, is expected to test Melbourne's fine dining scene.
The diminutive rocker has shown himself to be something of a foodie while Down Under, turning into a well-heeled Sir Lunch-a-lot while staying in Sydney.
The band is living a health-conscious lifestyle. with a tour rider containing requests for protein shakes, egg white omelettes, low-carb chicken salads, energy drinks, stir-fried vegetables and gym equipment backstage at their shows.
