U2 play Hamish & Andy’s Thank You show in Melbourne

In the guest appearance of the year, Irish superband U2 have played a surprise gig at Hamish & Andy’s final 2010 show in Melbourne this afternoon.

The comedy duo performed their parody song We Are Better Than U2 live on stage before being joined on stage to the delight of the packed Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

The band, who played the first show of their Australian 360 tour last Wednesday, performed two songs Desire and Vertigo acoustic.

In between songs, Hamish and Andy – who’ll downsize their Drive obligations next year to just Fridays – joked with the band, introducing them as ‘breaking artists’ before being knighted by frontman Bono with a sword.
